Chester Eggart (1906-1974) was one of Scheissmacher's few Drecoist rivals. Eggart, referred to by his neighbors as the "button maniac," was an embittered ex-tailor who worked exclusively with buttons. It is generally believed that Eggart viewed much of his work as a protest against the introduction of zippers.

During the 1920's Eggart was greatly influenced by Scheissmacher, but he later split with the master over Scheissmacher's refusal to learn Esperanto.
